When trying to get your first US American Express (Amex) credit card, their are certain items that you need to make sure you have in place, such as a US mailing address, a bank statement showing your US mailing address, as well as having a Canadian American Express credit card account.
Then upon submitting your application for the US Amex credit card, you will usually have to call in to speak with a representative as they will want to do more due diligence, and request you to then upload these types of documents for verification.
However, just recently I had my Player 2, my wife Ashley, apply for her 1st US Amex Credit Card, and a good one as well, the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire credit card....
...and she was approved right away!
This has never happened to us LYLE Travelers!!!!

I've applied for 3 American Express US credit cards to date, the:
American Express US Gold Card, which I recently upgraded after 1 year from the Green credit card, (this was my first ever US American Express credit card I got),
And for each application I submitted online, I had to follow up by calling American Express and provide further documentation, such as the items I mentioned earlier.
Due to our past experience applying online, when we applied this time, we were all ready with our RBC Bank statement, (we opened a US bank account specifically for this reason), updating the mailing address in our profile settings, so that the statement showed our US mailing address, and of course, having a US mailing address (we use my parents US address in Florida).
Well, we didn't even need to show anything this time, because as I mentioned, we were approved instantly.
So how did we do it?
Well, Prince of Travel has a ton of great blogs about Canadians applying for US credit cards. I used this one here when applying; Getting US credit cards for Canadians, which details how simple of a process it is, and it is.
However, I'll share exactly what we did below as a quick refresher while you're here.
For starters, make sure that you have opened a Canadian American Express credit card within the last 3 months.
Secondly, make sure you're on the US American Express site, not the Canadian, when applying for the US credit card. If you're unsure, scroll to the bottom, and you'll see country, where you can then change it from Canada to United States.

You then will decide which credit card you want to apply for, and when you get to the page where you need to fill out your information, you'll want to scroll down midway, and click on 'show details'.

This is because upon clicking it, it will allow you to login into your Canadian American Express credit card account.

You will then login with your credentials, where it then prompts you with the following message, and you will then click 'Yes'

It then takes you again to another application to input your personal information.
Here it then asks you to input your SSN or ITIN, simply click that you 'don't have a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), which upon clicking it, it will then give you the option now to choose a government-issued ID number.

We used Ashley's passport as the ID, which you then just fill into the necessary fields.

You then continue with the application, inputting your information, as well as your US mailing address you now have, and for the 'Total Annual Income' section, we just used our Canadian Total Annual Household Income.

And that's it, scroll to the bottom of the page after filling everything out, and click on the 'Agree & Submit' button, and cross your fingers that you're approved instantly like we were.
If so, it'll will tell you right away that you're approved (see below).

If not, it will display a phone number to call in to so that you can provide more information and/or provide verification etc.
What do you think about that!??
