How We Got A US Capital One Credit Card

Getting a credit card from Capital One in the US was not an easy task for me, but for Player 2, my wife Ashley, it WAS!!

First, let me tell you about my story in trying to get a US Capital One credit card.
About a year ago I applied online and after many phone calls with their customer service team, was approved, however, I encountered numerous issues, from accessing my account, which couldn't be done, mainly I believe, because I was using a Canadian phone number, to getting my credit card shipped (it was shipped, but then for some reason was returned to sender, and then when I tried to get it reshipped, I had to basically be re-approved again).
The issue however with this was every time I'd call Capital One for help, the reps on the phone would want to verify whom I was, by sending a code to my phone, and I would argue with them that it doesn't work since it was a Canadian phone number.
They would then tell me they need to verify me before proceeding, and I would have to upload documents to show them whom I said I was, which would work, until I called in, and they would again want to verify me by sending a text. It just kept going around and around, to the point I finally just gave up trying to get my credit card.
To this day I have an account online with an approved credit card, but I actually can't use it LOL!
Player 2 on the other hand had a much smoother experience.
Her story started with a friend of mine telling me he was able to get a US Capital One credit card just by using his Canadian SIN, no ITIN needed, and a US mailing address.
He sent me a referral link for the card he got, the Capital One Venture One Rewards Card, and she proceeded to fill out the information requested, using her SIN, our US mailing address, but unfortunately, again, we were denied.
I then tried to see if I would be approved, using my ITIN and our US address, and again, we were denied.
Then I remembered there are certain credit cards that are easier to get when you don't have any US credit history, so I searched online and found out these cards by Capital One; the Quiksilver One and the Platinum are easy to get with no US credit history.
We then tried again, having Player 2, Ashley, proceed to fill in the information, using our US mailing address, and her Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN), and THIS TIME, our US phone number, so that we could receive text messages...
And sure enough, Player 2 got approved for the US Capital One Platinum Mastercard INSTANTLY!!!

We were then able to set up her online account, in which you are required to verify whom you are, by inputting the last 4 digits of your SSN (we just used the last 4 digits of her SIN), as this is how they identify you, as well as your birth date, and zip code.
Then we were in!
Side note, to get the Capital One US mobile app is a little tricky as a Canadian, with a Canadian phone carrier, because you need a US email address, and to get a US email address, you need to be in the States when you set it up.
What do I mean by that, well...
A while back, I created a US Gmail account when I was physically in the states, as the IP Address of the internet connection I was using showed I was in the US, allowing me to set up a new Gmail with a US IP Address (now this might not be the most accurate way to describe all this tech stuff, but in theory, this is how it works).
Anyways, I did this so that I could then use my US Gmail in the Play Store on my android phone, which thinks I'm in the US, which then allows me to download US mobile apps. If you try to download the Capital One Mobile US app, when searching in the Play Store from your Canadian Gmail account, it doesn't show up, so you need to have and switch over to your US Gmail account to do get it.
Having the mobile app just makes it easier to login to your account but its not necessary.
Anyways, the main goal was being approved for a US Capital One credit card, as this now gets our foot in the door to start earning and collecting Capital One Miles!
These are amazing miles to earn as they are similar to American Express (Amex) Membership Reward (MR) points, as they are very transferrable to airlines and hotels.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT!!??
