The miles and points game is ongoing, and as I'm always learning more and more about miles and points, it sometimes can be hard to keep up with everything, as well as writing about what we've been up to lately.

On that note, we recently just booked flights to Florida out of Detroit using miles and points.

Since US American Express Membership Reward (MR) points convert to Delta SkyMiles at a 1:1 ratio, I was able to transfer my US Amex points to book a roundtrip flight for the 3 of us Lyle Travelers this fall all using points, 69K to be exact, plus 72.60 USD in fees (Delta charges a fee when transferring points).

If we didn't use points, it would've cost us $803.91 USD!

Now, the one thing to remember, we used US American Express (Amex) Membership Reward points. If you didn't know or don't know, US Amex points are different then Canadian Amex points. You can't just transfer your Canadian Amex points to the same hotels and airlines as you can with your US Amex points.

Here's a great website I use, to see whom are all the transfer partners for Amex, among all other points currencies.

As you'll see, US Amex points transfer to WAYYYY more hotels and airlines then Canadian (CAD) Amex points!

And as you'll see, the transfer ratios are better too. For instance, CAD Amex points transfer at a 4:3 ratio to Delta Skymiles. It's great it can still be done, but I would've needed 92K points to book the same flight to Florida.

As for getting a US American Express credit card, I've written many blogs on how you can do this as a Canadian.

Check them out here:

Between Player 2, my wife Ashley, and myself, we've got quite a few US credit cards:

I have 3 American Express credit cards, which includes even a business American Express card.

Player 2 has Amex credit card.

I have a Chase credit card.

Player 2 has a Capital One credit card.

And we are working on getting more!

The credit card from Chase was a process in itself to get, but it can be done.

Tip, get an ITIN, this site helps you do that, and it's how I got mine. This will help you get a Chase credit card, among other credit cards too, as it helps you build US credit history. Reason I'm mentioning Chase, is their reward points are up there to collect with Amex points.

Oh, we are also looking to book a trip using miles and points to either Doha, Qatar or Tokyo, Japan. And of course, we'd be flying business class. So far I've found couple trips, but struggling to find a return.

Takes time, but I'll find them!

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT !!??

PS If you're ready to start earning, we recommend you start with our favourite credit card, the American Express Cobalt, You can apply for the card through a referral link and earn up to 15,000 bonus points and I'll earn 5,000 bonus points. It's a win win!
